A Colorado man is facing federal charges for allegedly posting death threats against election officials in Colorado and Arizona, a Colorado state judge and federal law enforcement agents on social media in 2021 and 2022.
Authorities arrested 45-year-old Teak Brockbank on Friday in Cortez, Colorado, and charged him with transmitting interstate threats, according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Justice.
The DOJ highlighted a social media post Brockbank allegedly made on Aug. 4, 2022, in which he suggested killing various election officials in Arizona and Colorado.
“Once those people start getting put to death then the rest will melt like snowflakes and turn on each other. . . . This is the only way,” the post said. “So those of us that have the stomach for what has to be done should prepare our minds for what we all [a]re going to do!!!!!! It is time.”
Officials say Brockbank made another post on Oct. 2, 2021, in which he said he wasn’t simply justified but obligated to shoot a Colorado state judge in the head. Federal authorities said Brockbank posted on July 20, 2022, that he’d also be justified in shooting any agents with the CIA, FBI or ATF who showed up to his house.
“We allege that the defendant made detailed death threats against election officials, judges, and law enforcement officers,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement. “Violent threats against public servants are a danger to our democracy, and the arrest and charges announced today make clear that the Justice Department will see to it that perpetrators answer for their actions.”
Brockbank faces a maximum of five years in prison if convicted.
