What makes Acton think she can take the heat?
So, Amy Acton wants to be Ohio’s next governor.
Already the talking heads are talking about what an incredible leader she is based on her time as head of Ohio’s Department of Health. I remember not long into the COVID-19 pandemic she quit her job because the pressure and criticism was too much for her.
I guess she figures there is a lot less pressure as a governor than a health director.

I hope someone tells her criticism and pressure are going to be put on her from many more issues other than just public health. If she were to be elected, I wonder how long it would take her to quit.
If she does quit, I don’t think she will be able to go back to being the head of “The Department of Kindness.” I don’t know why she left that stressful job.

Russo’s puff turned my stomach
Re “Kamala Harris has reignited the bright flame of optimism,” August 22. I read the “pie in the sky” opinion piece extolling the virtues of a Harris/Walz ticket from Ohio House of Representatives Minority Leader Allison Russo of Upper Arlington. I immediately experienced a not too pleasant experience: I threw up in my mouth.

Donald Trump is the real threat to democracy
Re “Democrats will ruin democracy. I am not delusional,” August 21: the letter claims evil Democrats are a threat to democracy because in their pursuit of socialist goals, seeking eternal, total control of the government.
Unfortunately, the closest the letter writer comes to describing the nefarious aims of the Democrats is to call their agenda socialist. Does he mean the Chips Act, which gives billions to return the manufacture of computer chips to the United States; the Affordable Care Act, which makes private health insurance, regardless of pre-existing conditions, available to workers whose employers do not provide it to them; or child tax credits for working families?
The real threat to democracy is former President Donald Trump, who did everything within his power to bully his vice president and Republican members of Congress to declare he won the 2020 election.
His socialism is to grant big tax breaks to corporations and the super wealthy. His take on democracy is that Republicans — everyone else can be dismissed with a nasty epithet — should fall in line and do what he orders them to do.
Tell me, which vision of our future is best for you and your family?

We’re going back to Democrat control
Democratic National Committee speakers have preached “turn the page” and “we are not going back” for the last three days.
Remarkably, the Obamas were the shrillest of the lot.
Despite all of the doom and gloom spouted during the DNC, three inescapable facts exist.
First, during 12 of the last 16 years the left controlled the White House.
Second, the Obamas controlled eight of those years. Finally, Harris, who according to the DNC cheerleaders will be our new “joyful“ problem-solving leader, has been on the White House leadership team for three and a half years, and in many instances charged with solving the very problems the left now loudly lament.
But, of course, the left has nothing to do with today’s issues. Nope. All wrongs were caused by Donald J. Trump. (Insert Kamala Harris laugh.)
