Ohio State has added another piece to its 2025 offensive line class.
2025 Maryland four-star guard Jayvon McFadden announced his commitment to Ohio State Saturday per On3, choosing the Buckeyes over finalists Colorado, Florida, Maryland and South Carolina.
McFadden, a 6-foot-5, 300-pound lineman out of Riverdale Baptist High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, is the No. 469 prospect in the 2025 class, and the No. 28 interior offensive lineman in the country per 247Sports’ composite rankings.
Ohio State offered McFadden in November after a visit for the Buckeyes’ win against Michigan State. He returned to campus for Ohio State’s spring game before he had his official visit the weekend of June 7.
McFadden is Ohio State’s first Maryland commit since four-star defensive lineman Jason Moore signed with the Buckeyes in 2023.
Jayvon McFadden commitment analysis: What it means for Ohio State
McFadden is the offensive lineman Toledo four-star commit Carter Lowe wanted to play next to him at Ohio State.
“My boy, that’s my guy,” Lowe said in June. “He loves ball, just like me. You know, I’m somewhat new to the game, but he has a lot of knowledge. He loves the game. So it would be crazy and really, really fun to play next to him. So I talk to him a lot. Hopefully he can become a Buckeye too.”
With McFadden and Lowe in the fold along with three-star center Jake Cook, Ohio State’s 2025 offensive line is beginning to take shape.
Mar 5, 2024; Columbus, OH, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes offensive line coach Justin Frye works with the team during the first spring practice at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
In the Ryan Day era, Ohio State has landed an average of four offensive linemen per recruiting class, a number the Buckeyes hit in 2024 with Ian Moore, Devontae Armstrong, Deontae Armstrong and Gabe VanSickle.
But it’s not exactly the line Ohio State wanted.
The Buckeyes recently missed out on five-star offensive tackles David Sanders Jr. (Tennessee) and Josh Petty (Georgia Tech). Lowe is the highest-rated commitment Frye has landed in his tenure at Ohio State, and is one of eight four-star linemen to have committed to the Buckeyes since 2023, two of which is from outside of Ohio in VanSickle and Moore.
Ohio State has a tackle, a guard and its future center. But when it comes to depth, especially on the outside, the Buckeyes have more questions than answers as the 2025 class begins to wrap up.
