The USA Today Florida Sports Network Two-Minute Drill looks at this weekend’s preseason games for the Dolphins, Buccaneers and Jaguars.
The Jacksonville Jaguars play for the first time in the 2024 NFL preseason Saturday night in front of their home crowd. If that’s not enough to draw fans to EverBank Stadium, consider their opponent: the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
Fans won’t have to break the bank to see Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce take on Trevor Lawrence and the Jags. And yes, both teams are expected to play their starters at the beginning of the preseason opener.
Coach Doug Pederson is looking to lead a turnaround in 2024 after the Jaguars missed the playoffs last season. The Jags brought in Gabe Davis and drafted Brian Thomas Jr. to replace Calvin Ridley at wide receiver, and Josh Hines-Allen (no longer to be confused with the Bills QB) will have a new secondary working behind his pass rush.

There’s also a battle brewing for who will serve as backup quarterback for Lawrence, who signed a lengthy extension over the offseason. Mac Jones is back home after spending three seasons with the New England Patriots, and he’s competing with C.J. Beathard for the role of QB2. Who will come out on top after Week 1 of the preseason?
