Canada took another game from Team USA at the U-18 Series at the Canada Games Park in Thorold, Ontario. After beating USA 4-2 in the opening game of the Series, Canada took a 3-1 decision in game two.
“We have a great young team,” said Canada head coach Vicky Sunohara. “They’re young players but gosh, they’re playing beyond their years for sure.”
USA opened the scoring as Shattuck St. Mary’s forward Jane Daley forced a turnover and caught Canada in a change before putting the rebound to her own shot high over the glove of Canada’s Amelia Wilkinson.
Less than a minute later, Canada answered back on the powerplay as Hayley McDonald, a forward for Balmoral Hall picked a corner from low in the right hand circle to tie the game 1-1.
Canada’s special teams were the difference in the game as Aubrey Morrison made it 2-1 for Canada in what would stand as the game winning goal after she stole a puck at the American blueline and walked in alone to score.
Less than a minute later, Maxine Cimeroni scored an insurance marker. Chloe Primerano carried the puck down from the blueline and fed a perfect cross-crease pass to Cimeroni who tapped it home on the doorstep to make it 3-1 which is how the game would end.
