The Connecticut Sun signed Celeste Taylor to a seven-day contract, the team announced Friday. The details of the rookie guard’s deal were not disclosed at the time due to team policy.
Taylor was selected 15th overall (second round, third pick) in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever, but was waived by the team on June 25th following five games played in the league.
The Phoenix Mercury picked Taylor up on a seven-day contract on July 12. Taylor played four games for the Mercury and had a career-high six points, one rebound, two assists and one block Thursday night against the Chicago Sky. In her rookie season, Taylor has averaged 1.4 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game.
Taylor played NCAA basketball at Texas from 2019-20, Duke from 2021-23 and finished her collegiate career at Ohio State in the 2023-24 season. Taylor earned the 2024 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year as well as All-Big Ten Second Team and All-Big Ten Defensive Team selections.
The 5-foot-11 guard joins the Sun as they return from the Olympic break. The team has its first game action since July 16 on Friday night as it takes on the Dallas Wings. The Sun will be in Boston on Tuesday for the first WNBA game played at TD Garden. The 7:00 p.m. game against the Los Angeles Sparks officially sold 19,156 tickets, marking the the third-highest attendance to a WNBA game so far this season.
