Dirtbag’s, a University of Arizona hangout spot with an over-30-year history in Tucson is opening a location in Phoenix on Aug. 16.
The bar is replacing The Spot at Arcadia at the corner of Indian School Road and 48th Street.
Since opening in Tucson, Dirtbag’s has drawn a crowd of regulars called “Baggers” for pre-game food, drinks and traditions, like listening to “Sweet Caroline” on the jukebox. The new bar features one of the original jukeboxes, which is set to play “Sweet Caroline” every hour, on the hour.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see Dirtbag’s grow beyond Tucson,” said Gary Welch, owner of Dirtbag’s Tucson, in a news release. “We’ve been a staple for generations of students and locals, and continuing that legacy in Phoenix means we can share our tradition with even more people. I’m proud to see the brand expand while maintaining the spirit and atmosphere that makes Dirtbags special.”
Fans reacted to the news on social media
With over 60,000 UA alumni living in Phoenix, the bar invites Tucson transplants to come relive memories and new “Baggers” to come start making them.
When Dirtbag’s first announced it was coming to Phoenix on Instagram, @diane.i67 wrote: “OMG, this could be a real dirty situation 😂”
In a later post, @borchardcustom commented “Having grown up in Tucson, it’s going to feel sooooo nostalgic having you in my neighborhood. 😍”
What’s on the menu at Dirtbag’s?
The food menu at Dirtbag’s features salads like Caesar and grilled chicken; sandwiches, like fried, grilled and Buffalo chicken; Alfredo and pesto pastas; pizzas and burgers like the popular half-pound Dirtburger.
The drinks menu pairs small bites like fried wings or chips and salsa with shots. They offer a full bar with draft and bottled beer, cocktails and wine.
What to expect at Dirtbag’s Phoenix
Matt Robles, the original muralist who painted the Tucson bar’s logo, painted the name on the lobby wall at the new location.
The Phoenix location will have 30 televisions and arcade games, 90 parking spaces onsite and more across the street.
The grand opening is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 16 at 6 p.m.
