Widespread rain showers and isolated severe thunderstorms are possible Wednesday across a wide swath of North Dakota.
The western and central regions of the state could see storms with hail the size of quarters, winds gusting to 60 mph and heavy rain. Bismarck and Jamestown are in an area that could see torrential rain and flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service.
There is a 75-80% probability of rainfall in Bismarck from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, forecasters said. The capital city as of Tuesday morning had received 12.23 inches of precipitation for the year, a little less than an inch below normal.
Far western North Dakota could use moisture, as well. Dry conditions have expanded in that area in recent weeks, and much of the region is either considered abnormally dry or in moderate drought, according the U.S. Drought Monitor, a a partnership of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the National Drought Mitigation Center and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
