Five-star quarterback Julian Lewis is one of the top prospects in the nation in the class of the 2026.
And while he’s currently committed to USC, months of rumors have tied him Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes.
But now it appears that Colorado has fallen behind yet another program in the race to land Lewis’s signature, and it’s one that many people wouldn’t expect — the Indiana Hoosiers.
National Recruiting Analyst Says Indiana Ahead Of Colorado In Julian Lewis Race
Lewis has trained with Indiana co-offensive coordinator Tino Sunseri since he was eight years old. That alone earned Indiana an official visit from one of the nation’s top prospects.
But many assumed that was a courtesy visit and that the Hoosiers were an afterthought in his recruitment.
That’s no longer the case.
Tom Loy of 247Sports says that Indiana, not Colorado, is currently the top threat to flip Lewis from the Trojans.
“The teams to watch – Indiana, Colorado and to a lesser extent, Auburn,” Loy stated. “I say lesser extent because it looked like Auburn was about to get it done, and then around the start of July it seemed like they both kind of parted ways and Auburn started focusing its attention more on Deuce Knight.
“So now I’m watching Indiana and Colorado. If I had to pick between the two, I would give the edge to Indiana. I think that staff is doing a phenomenal job. We all know about the relationship with Tino Sunseri. I think coach Cignetti is doing a phenomenal job trying to recruit him, treating him like a priority. Like I said, right now I give the edge to Indiana over Colorado and the field.”
Landing Lewis would be an immense statement of intent for first-year head coach Curt Cignetti. Failing to land him would be a major blow to Sanders and Colorado. But as things stand, that looks like the eventual outcome.
