The USA women are looking for their eighth straight Olympics gold medal, with each of the previous seven championship game wins coming by at least 11 points. The same has been true of the 2024 Olympics with the Americans’ five victories thus far coming by an average of 18.6 points. The U.S. spread the ball up and down its lineup in beating Australia 85-64 in the semifinals, with only top scorer Breanna Stewart attempting double-digit shots with 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting.
France’s only loss of the tournament so far was to that same Australia squad, 79-72, in the Group B finale for both teams. The French women beat a good Germany team, 84-71, in the quarterfinals and prevailed over Belgium, 81-75, in the semifinal round.
