Customers of the Mechanicsburg system from Pennsylvania American Water Co. are still under a boil-water advisory Saturday morning, and some people are reporting having no water at all.
The company on Saturday said that a water main break led a storage tank to drain, leaving some customers without water service and others with limited pressure.
The 42,000 customers in the Mechanicsburg system need to boil water before using it, the company said. Customers are in Cumberland and northern York counties, including: Camp Hill, Lemoyne, New Cumberland, Shiremanstown, West Fairview and Wormleysburg boroughs; East Pennsboro, Hampden, Lower Allen, Silver Spring townships; parts of Middlesex and Upper Allen townships; and parts of Fairview and Newberry townships.
In addition to households, the issue is affecting (and in some cases closing) businesses in the region.
Here’s how to properly boil water: Bring water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one minute, and cool before using; or use bottled water.
Use the boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and making food until further notice, the company says.
Those with limited or no water should boil their water when it returns, the company says.
Pennsylvania American Water says it’s working to locate the main break and start repairs while collecting and testing water samples.
Customers are to be alerted when the situation is resolved.
