The United States men’s volleyball team took home bronze in the Paris Olympics with a 25-23, 30-28, 26-24 sweep over Italy in the third place match on Friday.
Former Hawaii middle blocker Taylor Averill registered seven kills on eight swings, while Punahou alumnus Erik Shoji had a match-high 12 digs.

Kamehameha’s Micah Christenson continued to facilitate the offense, upholding his reputation as one of the world’s best setters while adding eight digs, a kill and a block. Punahou alumnus Micah Ma’a, the team’s backup at setter, did not play on Friday but earned a medal in his first Games.
Shoji and Christenson earned bronze for the second time in their Olympic careers, both previously earning bronze in 2016. Averill and Ma’a both competed in the Olympics for the first time.
Poland and host France will meet in the gold medal match.
