Fans of K-pop boy group BTS started speculating that members were in Connecticut last year, as they were spotted visiting several locations throughout the Nutmeg State.
One Connecticut BTS fan posted a thread to X (formerly known as Twitter) about an experience meeting BTS while working in the deli section of Stop & Shop. The fan asked two customers if they were from BTS, to which one replied, “Maybe,” the thread details.
The moment is now featured in the trailer for the new Disney+ show, “Are You Sure?!”.
The rumors were true. The eight-episode show follows BTS’ Jimin and Jungkook as they go on vacation in New York and Connecticut as well as Jeju, South Korea, and Sapporo, Japan, according to a Disney+ preview of the show.
The show was filmed in 2023 as Jimin and Jungkook enjoyed an international vacation before enlisting into South Korea’s military (known as conscription) in December. All men between the ages of 18 and 35 are required to serve in the military, according to South Korean laws, and Jungkook and Jimin are expected to spend two years serving in the military, being discharged in 2025.
The oldest member of BTS, Jin, completed his military service this year and was discharged on June 12. All of the BTS members, including Jungkook and Jimin, reunited in South Korea with Jin to celebrate the event.
Fans have been trying to figure out what exact Connecticut locations Jimin and Jungkook visited based off footage featured in the show’s trailer. One such location is High Nine Brewing in Deep River.
High Nine Brewing co-owner Kerstin Fluegeman said that the Disney+ and BTS teams reached out to the brewery a few days in advance of filming to discuss security concerns and logistics.
“We were like, ‘BTS is coming here? Are you serious?’,” she said.
Fluegeman kept their visit a secret from everyone, including bartenders at the brewery, until the day of Jimin and Jungkook’s visit.
“I’m glad that we were able to keep it a secret and that they were able to have a very normal experience,” Fluegeman said. “It felt good to keep it under wraps and give them maybe just a small sense of normalcy at our place.”
Fluegeman said the rural location of High Nine Brewing helped “ease” the minds of location scouts for the show. She said Jimin and Jungkook were able to visit on a Friday during the brewery’s regular hours without it being mobbed by people.
“I don’t think a lot of people in this area really know who BTS is,” Fluegeman said. “They were like, ‘Oh, they’re filming something, cool, good for them.’ They had no idea that they’re the biggest pop stars in the world.”
Fluegeman said Jimin and Jungkook ordered a tasting flight of four beers to sample them and each ordered one beer after that.
“They were really polite, everyone was really great to work with,” Fluegeman said. “I can’t say enough nice things. Everyone was really nice.”
After the Disney+ trailer released, Fluegeman said several BTS fans have visited the brewery.
“That’s been fun. We encourage any fans that want to come and see where they were to come and hang out with us,” she said. “We love BTS. We feel so incredibly blessed that they chose to include us on their little tour of Connecticut.”
Fluegeman said Jimin and Jungkook stayed at High Nine Brewing for about an hour or two before visiting a nearby location to go kayaking, as seen in the trailer for the show.
The first two episodes of the eight-episode show are now available for streaming on Disney+. New episodes of the show will be released each Thursday.
