NIOBRARA Neb. (KTIV) – The Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) has announced the construction of a housing development in Niobrara and Verdigre, Nebraska.
The Economic Development says the new housing will include two new rental apartment buildings for both locations in Knox County. Each apartment unit will also include two bedrooms, one bath and a garage. Each newly constructed building will also include a community room, storm shelter and a common entryway.
The development says eight of the twelve units will serve as Low Moderate-Income (LMI) housing at or below 80% while two units will be unrestricted market rate.

The Niobrara/Verdigre housing development is one of three new developments taking place in Nebraska.
One of these developments will take place in Omaha, Nebraska while another will take place in Fremont, Nebraska. All three housing developments share a total amount of $4,850,000 in gap funding, provided by the Community Development Block Grant -Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Affordable Housing Construction (AHCP) Small Rental Production program. (SRP).
This funding program provides federal funding to Nebraska areas that are defined as the “most impacted or distressed” by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (USDHU), according to the Nebraska Department of Economic Development.
The department also says this program also seeks to address unmet needs for public housing in Nebraska.
