Think about that. There are nearly eight billion people on earth and he’s better at his craft than some 7.9 billion other people. Let’s keep that context in mind and celebrate what Nuguse just accomplished in winning bronze in the 1,500-meter run at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Too many times, we’re so focused, conditioned really, on who’s in first place that we disregard the excellence that it took to be second or third.
The former duPont Manual High School standout who also ran at Notre Dame achieved a personal best time of three minutes, 27 seconds and eight-tenths of a second. It was his kick in the final 50 or so meters that rushed him past Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the defending Olympic champion, and nearly landed him past Great Britain’s Josh Kerr for silver.
