Republican incumbent Rep. David Kustoff did not have any challengers in the Aug. 1 party primary. Kustoff will now faceoff with Democrat Sarah Freeman, who won the Democratic primary for Tennessee House District 8, in the November General Election.
Freeman, a former Shelby County Democratic Executive and Tennessee Democratic Party Executive, won the crowded Democratic primary soundly Thursday.
Early unofficial election results showed Freeman with about 45% of the vote. Lynnette P. Williams, her closest opponent, was more than 25 percentage points below her.
Freeman will face off against incumbent Kustoff, a former U.S. Attorney from Germantown who currently serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means. Kustoff cruised to victory in 2022, earning 74% of the vote that November.
