LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A man was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for kidnapping a woman in Pennsylvania and then driving her to Nevada in 2019 and killing her in the desert, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Back in May, John Matthew Chapman of Pennsylvania was found guilty of one count of kidnapping resulting in death, following an eight-day jury trial.
The presiding judge sentenced Chapman to the maximum penalty.
On Nov. 14, 2019, police began an investigation into locating Jaime Feden after concerns from her friends and family were brought to the department’s attention. The investigation led to police learning that Feden was found dead and unidentified in the desert of Lincoln County, Nevada on October 5, 2019.

8 News Now previously reported that on Nov. 15, 2019, Chapman was arrested and interviewed by detectives with the Bethel Park Police Department of Pennsylvania. During the interview, Chapman admitted that in Sept. 2019, he drove the Feden from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, to Las Vegas, Nevada. He further admitted that he misled the Feden to believe the trip was a vacation, and that they would potentially purchase a home in Las Vegas. However, police said Chapman had planned to kill the Feden and had a “kill kit” ready before their departure to Nevada.
According to court documents and evidence presented during the trial, on November 14, 2019, police in Pennsylvania found identification cards with Chapman’s name and photograph, the victim’s cellular telephone, multiple zip ties, and a roll of duct tape inside the victim’s residence.
A joint investigation with the FBI, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and Bethel Park Police Department revealed that Chapman returned to Pennsylvania. He pretended to be the victim, including using the victim’s Facebook messenger account, and he continuously used the victim’s residence and money following her death, according to court documents.
“The defendant violated the victim’s trust by luring her away from her family and friends in Pennsylvania and out into the Nevada desert where he viciously killed her,” United States Attorney Jason M. Frierson for the District of Nevada said. “This sentence should send a clear message to others that kidnapping and killing another person will result in a substantial prison sentence.
