The United States women’s volleyball team swept France on Sunday to clinch its spot in the quarterfinals of the Olympic volleyball tournament.
The U.S. won 29-27, 29-27, 25-20. The fifth-ranked Americans entered the match needing to win just one set in the match to earn enough points in the standings to advance to the quarterfinals. The U.S. finished with a 2-1 record in pool play. Its quarterfinal match will be announced at the conclusion of pool play.
Annie Drews, a right-side hitter from Purdue, again led the Americans with 15 kills.
Former Husker Justine Wong-Orantes was the starting libero, with ex-Huskers Kelsey (Robinson) Cook and Jordan Larson each playing later in the match. Larson, the Nebraska assistant coach playing in her fourth Olympics, had an out-of-system set that led to one of the final kills of the match.
