LARAMIE, Wyo. — The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will compete in the 2024 Discover Puerto Rico Shootout held over Thanksgiving week, Nov. 28–30.
Wyoming will play a trio of games in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Cowgirls open play on Nov. 28 against defending Missouri Valley champion Drake. Day two of the event will feature a matchup against Norfolk State. The tourney ends on Nov. 30 as UW faces off against the Virginia Cavaliers.
The Cowgirls enter the coming season after a strong 2023–24 that saw them establish themselves as one of the top squads in the Mountain West Conference before making a run to the Great 8 of the Women’s NIT. The squad finished with the conference’s second-best field goal percentage, third-best defense and fourth-best point differential.
Last year’s team was led by frontcourt star Allyson Fertig, who led the Mountain West in field goal percentage and was second in the conference in rebounds per game. Fertig will be returning for her senior season in 2024–25. Guard Malene Pedersen established herself as one of the conference’s best sharpshooters, and she will look to continue her strong play in her junior campaign.
