Taylor Swift said she is “completely in shock” after learning about the deadly stabbing at a children’s dance class in celebration of her music in Southport, England, on Monday. Three children were killed, and others were injured.
The singer expressed her horror and reacted to the devastating incident on her Instagram story on Tuesday, July 30. She wrote that “the horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously, and I’m just completely in shock.”
“The loss of life and innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families, and first responders,” Swift added. “These were just little kids at a dance class.”
The brutal stabbing occurred on July 29 during a children’s dance and yoga class centered around her music. A social media post promoting the event indicated that the class was open to children in Year 2 to Year 6 and included a bracelet-making workshop.

“I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families,” Swift also wrote. The 34-year-old artist played nearby in Liverpool during the European leg of her Eras Tour in June.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, according to AP News. Police said the suspect was born in Cardiff, Wales, and lives in Southport. The motivation for the attack is “unclear,” but it’s not being treated as terror-related.
Merseyside Police confirmed in a statement that three children had died, including a six-year-old, a seven-year-old, and a nine-year-old. Eight children and two adults remain hospitalized after the attack. Both adults and five of the children are in critical condition.

The Taylor Swift UK & EU Facebook Group started a Just Giving fundraising page to raise money for funeral funds for the “young swifties who have tragically passed.” More than £92,506 has been raised as of the morning of June 30.
The donation page’s organizers said they are working directly with Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, and every donation “goes directly to the verified charity below, which will in turn help make a difference to those impacted in a time of great sadness.”
