Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs may be about to turn three-time Super Bowl MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes loose this season.

After forming what has the potential to be the most explosive supporting cast Mahomes has had at his disposal throughout his career, the Chiefs sound primed to build the offense around airing it out as the franchise vies for a record-setting third consecutive Super Bowl title.
Last season, Mahomes averaged just 3.5 air yards per attempt, and while his 50 passing attempts of 20+ yards ranked 10th in the league and eight attempts over 40 yards ranked 12th, there’s a real possibility he climbs the rankings in all three categories this fall.
Marquise Brown Suggests Kansas City Chiefs Will Air it Out
Thanks to the arrivals of veteran Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and rookie speedster Xavier Worthy, the Chiefs’ offense could be going from one that feasts on yards after the catch to one that attacks defenses over the top.
According to Brown, the deep ball has been a point of emphasis throughout training camp.
“Oh yeah, definitely,” Brown said, via ESPN. “We’ve got the guys to do it. Coach is putting us in great position to do it and Pat puts it on the money every time, so we’ve been lighting it up. It has been fun.”
Brown’s 11.3 yards per catch in 2023 combined with Worthy’s blazing 4.21 speed in the 40-yard dash offer tantalizing potential for what the Chiefs’ offense may transform into with Mahomes at the helm.
“Coach Reid likes to go deep,” Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy told ESPN. “So we’re going to try to go deep as much as we can and then play off of what we have or what they give us.”
That could be bad news for secondaries across the league, not to mention the rest of the NFL’s chances of slowing Mahomes and the Chiefs’ dynasty anytime soon.Jul 26, 2024; Kansas City, MO, USA; Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid walks during training camp at Missouri Western State University.
