In a season of ups and downs, the Nebraska defense has been one of the few spots of consistency. Through ten games, the blackshirts rank No. 17 overall in total defense at 306.9 yards per game. They also rank No. 18 in the country, surrendering only 18 points per game.
Following Nebraska’s loss to Maryland on Saturday afternoon, head coach Matt Rhule told the media that the defense was dominant but still left several big plays on the field.
“It’s the same thing, it’s the same game. They’re all the same games for us. It was pretty dominant on defense for long stretches and then an explosive pass. Dominant on defense, an explosive pass. If we continue to minimize those things, we could be even better on defense. They took the ball away today, which was great. I don’t know if we sacked the quarterback or not, maybe once or twice. I thought the defense came to play.”
The Huskers rank No. 16 overall in sacks with 29.0 through ten games. Rhule went on to say that it is no mystery why these tough losses keep happening
“As I told them, the things that cause winning and losing it’s not this mysterious thing out there. It’s winning the turnover battle, fourth-quarter shutouts, all the different things that we were not able to do tonight. We still had a chance to win. I know we’re pretty disappointed, but we’ll regroup.”
Nebraska will take the field again on Saturday when they travel to Madison, Wisconsin, to take on the Badgers. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
