Kamala Harris back in Arizona to discuss abortion access in the state
Vice President Kamala Harris arrives at Sky Harbor International Airport on June 24, 2024, as she is scheduled to discuss abortion rights in Phoenix.
President Joe Biden’s relatively late presidential campaign exit won’t leave his name stranded on Pennsylvania ballots.
Amy Gulli, a spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Department of State, confirmed that voters will see a new Democratic ticket pairing on their ballots this coming fall. A replacement for Biden is to be selected by delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago the week of Aug. 19, and that person will select his or her new running mate.
“Under the Pennsylvania Election Code, the presidential and vice presidential nominees selected at the Democratic National Convention will appear on the general election ballot as the Democratic candidates for president and vice president,” Gulli said in an email to the USA TODAY Network.
“Because the 2024 Democratic National Convention has not yet taken place, no nominees had been selected for the November ballot.”
Biden on Sunday announced that he was ending his reelection bid. Vice President Kamala Harris appears to be the betting favorite to replace him as the Democratic nominee, as several state delegations have already committed to supporting her.

Political pundits have speculated that Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro could be among the potential running mates coveted by Harris, should she lock up the nomination.
Democrats are trying to reinvigorate both voters and donors amid sagging presidential polling and in the aftermath of Biden’s poor debate performance that may have sealed the fate of his reelection bid. The Democratic nominees will be set to face a Republican team of former President Donald Trump and his newly selected running mate, U.S. Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio.
