In his first public remarks since announcing he would withdraw from the reelection campaign, President Biden called into Vice President Harris’s appearance at campaign headquarters in Delaware, urging campaign staff to rally around Harris. “Embrace her, she’s the best,” Biden said. Harris, meanwhile, previewed her campaign message of being a former prosecutor running against a felon. “I will proudly put my record against his,” Harris said of Republican nominee Donald Trump. Democrats are continuing to rally around Harris to take over as the party’s presidential nominee. Harris has received a rapid flow of endorsements from top Democrats, including former House speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Monday. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said that he and Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) plan to meet with Harris “in short order” and will have more to say then. He said Harris’s candidacy has “excited the country.”
