Tyler Jay has only pitched in three games this season for the Mets, which were the first of his MLB career. In those three games, he held a 7.71 ERA.
Jay, a first round pick of the Minnesota Twins in 2015, made his MLB debut just this year. He’s been to a couple of independent teams before signing with the Mets last year.
In Triple-A Syracuse, Jay was amazing. He was posting a 2.40 ERA in 23 appearances with 30 strikeouts and only walking four. However, the same couldn’t be said when he received his major league callup and the Mets designated him for assignment this past Wednesday.
After DFA’ing Dallas Keuchel and Joel Kuhnel, it made room for Jared Koenig’s return from the injured list, and Jay will get a 40-man roster spot. He immediately was optioned to Triple-A Nashville, and has three minor league option years remaining.
Brewers send TJ Shook to BinghamtonBiloxi Shuckers’ TJ Shook (27) throws against the Mississippi Braves at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Miss., on the Brave’s opening day, Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Braves won 2-0 after the game was called in the top of the eighth inning due to a tornado warning.
Shook was pitching with the Biloxi Shuckers, the Double-A affiliate for the Milwaukee Brewers, and will be going to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Shook was signed as an undrafted free agent back in 2020, and has been working his way through the minor league system; The righty has yet to make his major league debut.
In his minor league career, Shook has a 23-17 record with a 4.77 ERA. This season with the Shuckers, he is posting a 4.90 ERA with a 5-7 record, 1.35 WHIP, 77 strikeouts, and 25 walks in 64.1 IP. Compared to his 4.62 ERA and .229 batting average against, the Brewers felt that it was time to give him a shot with a different team.
