On Tuesday’s episode of Hard Knocks, one of the main focuses for the New York Giants was free agency. General manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll met in Schoen’s office to discuss what Daboll wanted to improve the roster for the 2024 season. There were a lot of holes on the roster before the free agency period began.
They both agreed that they needed to upgrade the offensive line in free agency. That was there number one priority. They wanted to pay some offensive linemen before potentially giving Barkley a new contract. The Giants also needed to make sure they had a reliable backup quarterback for Daniel Jones. Brian Daboll wanted to bring back Tyrod Taylor, but he signed with the New York Jets. They were also looking at other backup quarterbacks and potential Saquon Barkley replacements.

When Daboll and Schoen were talking about which offensive lineman to sign this offseason, one of the three offensive linemen they wanted to sign was former Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Robert Hunt. They thought it was going to take somewhere between $13-$15 million per season to get him signed.
Also, the New York Giants were after Jon Runyan on the Green Bay Packers and Jermaine Eluemunor of the Las Vegas Raiders. There was no way that the Giants were going to afford all three, especially since the Giants had to up their offer on Runyan when the New York Jets offered $9 million per season and $17 million guaranteed.
The New York Giants signed him for $10 million per season for three years and gave him $17 million per season. As for Jermaine Eluemunor, the Giants signed him to $7 million per season. He will either be the starting left guard or right tackle for New York this season.

Robert Hunt signed a five-year deal worth $100 million instead with the Carolina Panthers. Hunt is now with Panthers President of Football Operations and General Manager Dan Morgan. Morgan is a very close friend to New York Giants General Manager Joe Schoen.
It would have been nice for the Giants to sign all three, but at least they were able to get two of them. Robert Hunt is going to be a very big loss on the Miami Dolphins offensive line this season.
