Rochester restaurant and food truck Petit Poutinerie was recently featured in a USA TODAY article that highlights America’s favorite fries. The round-up includes nearly two dozen fries from eateries in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Florida and several other states.
Elizabeth Clapp, who co-founded and co-owns the restaurant, said she’s thrilled to receive the national exposure.
“So many friends and family reached out,” she said. “Rochester is such a close-knit community. I love that we were able to bring such a simple comfort food that highlights the fantastic Finger Lakes cheese curd to become part of hometown pride.”
Various Gannett newsrooms conducted French fry polls in advance of National French Fry Day on July 14. Almost 900 people voted in Rochester’s poll, which divided French fries into six categories. The most votes overall ― by a landslide ― was Petit Poutinerie.
The restaurant at 44 Elton St. in the Neighborhood of the Arts (NOTA) serves eight versions of poutine, based on fresh-cut fries, as well as a flight of three. Sandwiches, salads and desserts are offered as well. Much of its menu is gluten free and several vegan dishes are available. It also has a fleet of food trucks that are a regular presence at local events and festivals.
