It would be quite the story if Utah starting QB Cam Rising were able to play in his eighth college football season in 2025 after missing all of last season with an injury.
However, it does not seem likely that Rising will play past his seventh season this year, saying that Year No. 8 is “not the plan,” while acknowledging “seven years is more than enough,” per CBS Sports.
The Utes are set to compete in the Big 12 Conference after departing from the Pac-12 and are expected to be in the mix for the conference title.
However, head coach Kyle Whittingham highlighted the fact that according to Utah’s compliance department, Rising would not be eligible to play in 2025.
In the 2022 season, the star quarterback threw for 3,034 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and an 83.4 QBR. He also did a great job of controlling possessions, only throwing eight interceptions.
The dual-threat QB also added 953 yards on the ground throughout his career, as well as 12 rushing touchdowns.
Last season, even without Rising, Utah put together an 8-5 record with impressive victories over Florida, UCLA, USC, and Colorado.
Rising will begin his last season with the Utes on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 9 p.m. EST as hosts to Southern Utah.
