Ohio State football will be here right before you know it, and they are expected to have one of the best backfields in college football. Senior running back TreVeyon Henderson decided to return to school and not enter the NFL Draft this past April, which shocked many since he would’ve been one of the first running backs off the board.

Now Henderson looks to improve his draft stock even more this season, but he has a new friend in the backfield after last year’s running backs Chip Trayanum left for Kentucky, Dallan Hayden went to Colorado, and Miyan Williams entered the NFL
Ole Miss’s Quinshon Judkins left the Rebels and headed north to Columbus and will split carries with Henderson, making it an elite running back room, but sadly, one of the running backs in the room will most likely not see the 2024 season.

A report from Dan Hope of the Eleven Warriors came out on Friday stating that walk-on running back TC Caffey had been sidelined by a knee injury suffered during offseason workouts.
Eleven Warriors confirmed Friday that walk-on running back TC Caffey has been sidelined by a knee injury suffered during offseason workouts. While helping out at the Special Skills Football Invitational at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center on Friday, Caffey was walking around but wearing a brace and a sleeve on his right knee.
Ohio State has not confirmed the severity of his injury or a timetable for his return, but Bucknuts’ Dave Biddle reported Thursday that Caffey is expected to miss the 2024 season.

Losing a player right before the season starts is never good, and even though Caffey was a walk-on running back in a loaded room, there was still a chance he would see playing time this season. The Buckeyes lost three running backs this offseason, and even though they brought in Judkins, they still need a third back who can carry the ball; the only two other running backs on scholarship are true freshmen James Peoples and Sam Williams-Dixon.

TreVeyon Henderson has been known to get the injury bug a few times during the year. In 2022, he only appeared in eight games, and in 2023, he only saw ten, so there is a shot he will miss sometime.
The good news is Ohio State has a quarterback who can run in Will Howard, unlike last year when they had Kyle McCord, who couldn’t do anything with his legs, so there will be another running threat out there if they need the extra help.
It’s disappointing to see Caffey miss the season. Hopefully, he will bounce back and be a legitimate ball carrier for the team in 2025.
