The politics of Washington are generally hard for world leaders to ignore at the best of times. But this week, for a lot of them, it’s been right in their faces.
That’s because a summit of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) leaders has been happening in DC, while all the domestic political drama unfolds around them.

As head of the host country, Biden’s played a prominent role in the NATO summit — a big pressure-test on the world stage.
But he was “on really good form” — at least according to British PM Keir Starmer, who had a meeting with Biden.
He was “absolutely across all the detail”, the newly elected leader told the BBC afterwards.
“We were going at pace through a number of issues, which was really important to me because obviously it was my first opportunity to have a bilateral like that, and he showed incredible leadership.”
Sir Keir was on a long list of leaders Biden met with this week.
He also gave an energetic speech on Tuesday, local time, pledging ongoing support for Ukraine in its defence against Russia, and awarding NATO secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg with the highest US civilian award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
