The Wisconsin football staff broke into the 2026 recruiting class early when they offered a scholarship to an athlete last year.
Marcello Vitti, a four-star athlete in the 2026 class from Michigan, has been considered to be a priority recruit for the Wisconsin football staff. Vitti has experience playing as a cornerback, safety, and running back at the high school level but plans on staying at running back at the collegiate level. During a recent interview with Wisconsin Sports Heroics, Vitti revealed that Wisconsin remains a top school in his mind as he moves forward with his recruitment.

One of the initial 2026 offers the Wisconsin football staff extended went out to a dynamic athlete named Marcello Vitti. Vitti, a four-star defensive back and running back from Michigan, is currently ranked as the 21st overall athlete in the class according to 247Sports.
Vitti currently holds nearly 30 scholarship offers as they continue to pile in, with many major programs reaching out to the recruit. Vitti tells Wisconsin Sports Heroics that the programs in close contact have been Wisconsin, Kansas, Iowa, Boston College, Michigan, Louisville, Tennessee, and Northwestern among many others.
The running back is scheduled to visit Madison for the third time later this year during the now annual Bucky’s BBQ.

For the Wisconsin football staff, the recruitment of Vitti has largely been about showing the recruit what it is like to be a Badger running back. Perhaps the most intriguing part of running for the Wisconsin football team is being able to run behind a historically dominant offensive line. At the thought of this opportunity, Vitti stated, “You can’t beat running behind that line,” and also stated “Wisconsin develops players and that is important to me.”
Vitti also noted that he respects Head Coach Luke Fickell “a lot” and has developed a “great” relationship with Running Backs Coach Devon Spalding.

Vitti is one of the more interesting players in the 2026 class Wisconsin has targeted because of his versatile skill set. Most players have experience playing on both sides of the football, but not many can say they are as accomplished on each side of the ball as Vitti.
For example, former Michigan State Defensive Backs and Interim Head Coach Harlon Barnett was the lead recruiter of Vitti for the Spartans before his departure. Barnett is now part of the Northwestern as a safeties coach and the Wildcats have extended an offer to Vitti.
For Wisconsin, Vitti is a dynamic running back in their eyes, and in the eyes of Vitti himself as well. When asked about what sets himself apart on the field, Vitti responded, “I would say that I am more versatile as a running back than others. I have good vision and can run the ball between the tackles while also catching the ball out of the backfield.”
The running back is able to run the ball directly at the defense or receive the ball when needed, which has been two tough styles to find in one player.
