Texas A&M football may have just pulled in a top-ranked linebacker recruit with the commitment of California’s Noah Mikhail, but they’re looking to add one more. A longtime target for the Aggies, Riley Pettijohn, will reportedly announce his commitment this Saturday, July 6.

Jay Bateman has been key for the Aggies in this recruitment, as A&M wasn’t on Pettijohn’s radar to a great degree before Elko tabbed the former Florida ILBs coach as his defensive coordinator. The flipside of that, though, is that the Ags have had to play from behind for a good part of this recruitment.
Have they been able to draw even with the leaders? Being named with the top group is obviously a good sign here, but Pettijohn does not have any predictions as of yet to end up in College Station. For a long time, the Texas Longhorns were the leader here, but sometime around when Pettijohn finished up his OV to College Station, the Longhorns appeared to suddenly become an afterthought.
If I had to pick today, I’d think that Pettijohn is more likely to end up out of state at either USC or Ohio State than to continue his career in the Lone Star State. If he does end up opting to stick closer to home, though, the Aggies may have the upper hand here.
There’s still time for the Ags to make a final push here. I don’t think there’s anything close to resembling an insuperable obstacle for A&M in this one, so a last-second run could give the Aggies the enviable position in the 11th hour.
