The Wisconsin football staff has kept a close eye on the top-ranked recruit coming off of New York in the 2026 recruiting class.
Messiah Hampton, a three-star wide receiver in the 2026 class, is widely regarded as the top-ranked recruit in the state of New York. Hampton currently has been bringing in major interest from Ohio State, Penn State, West Virginia, Rutgers, and Syracuse. The New York native recently joined Wisconsin Sports Heroics for a quick interview about his contact with the Wisconsin football staff.

Following the opening of the 2026 recruiting period, the Wisconsin football staff has begun to seriously target a specific receiver. Three-star wide receiver Messiah Hampton, the top-ranked recruit in New York, has been a hot recruiting commodity the past few weeks. Hampton is a speedy, dynamic receiver that can still leap into the air and make the plays needed.
While it is still early in the process, Hampton currently holds twelve scholarship offers including one from the Wisconsin football staff. Both Penn State and Syracuse have been recruiting Hampton heavily and began recruiting Hampton last season via his coach.

For Hampton, the key to recruiting has been finding the program with a combination of athletics, academics, and football development. Hampton wants to become the best football player he can become on the field, while also earning an education that truly means something.
When asked about what he looks for in a program, Hampton stated, “I’m looking for a school that will develop me to be the best football player I can be.” Hampton also added that an experience and successful staff is something that he is looking for at the next level.
In terms of Wisconsin football, Hampton revealed that he indeed does have interest in the program early on. Hampton stated, “I think very highly of Wisconsin with their big time athletics and academics.”

For the Wisconsin football staff, the key to potentially landing Hampton in the future is providing the recruit with an avenue to the field. The Badgers already have plenty of wide receivers, but none quite with the speedy gifts that Hampton possesses. Wisconsin could slide Hampton into the slot position and place their taller receivers on the outside, which would be the easiest way to get Hampton onto the field quickly.
Regardless of where he would play, there is still plenty of time left to recruit and work with Hampton before his eventual commitment.
