Beekman, who grew up in Milwaukee before moving to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to play high school ball, played four seasons and started 121 games at Virginia University under Clintonville native Tony Bennett. A 6-foot, 3-inch guard, Beekman was the two-time Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year and three-time all-ACC defensive team member.
He was also a two-time all-ACC pick and is the university’s all-time leader in steals.
Beekman reportedly agreed to a deal with the Golden State Warriors, keeping the Wisconsin pipeline to the Bay Area strong. The Warriors drafted Greenfield native Brandin Podziemski last year and have Milwaukee native Kevon Looney still under contract. In the recent past, the Warriors have also drafted Milwaukee’s Jordan Poole and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee alumnus Patrick Baldwin Jr.

Pewaukee High School alumnus Jack Gohlke burst onto the national scene during the NCAA tournament last year for Oakland University after hitting 10 three-pointers against Kentucky in a first-round upset of the Wildcats.
The 6-3 guard initially spent five seasons at Division III Hillsdale College (he redshirted as a freshman in 2018-19) before moving on to Oakland as a graduate student. In his one season in the Horizon League, Gohlke was named the conference’s Sixth Man of the Year after averaging 13.1 points per game and making 37.6% of his three-point attempts.
His agency announced he signed a deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder, which finished as the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference last season with 57 wins.
Gohlke had a pre-draft workout with the Milwaukee Bucks.
