OMAHA, Neb. — Florida baseball will get another challenge against a familiar foe when it faces another SEC opponent — Kentucky —on Wednesday at Charles Schwab Field in the College World Series.
The Florida Gators (35-29) played Kentucky three times during the regular season, losing two of three games against the Wildcats (46-15) in their final home series from May 10-12 at Condron Family Ballpark.
Florida has been on the road since, a stretch that has taken UF from Athens, Ga., to Hoover, Ala., to Stillwater, Okla., to Clemson, S.C. to Omaha.
The Gators will face Kentucky in an elimination game with the winner moving on to face Texas A&M on Wednesday. Florida improved to 7-1 in its last eight NCAA Tournament elimination games with a 5-4 win over North Carolina State on Monday.
“Anytime we’re in a spot with our backs against the wall, we’ve played our best baseball, hands down, without a doubt” Florida left fielder Tyler Shelnut said. “I think knowing that we have confidence in ourselves going into these games, there’s never a moment where we panic, or feel that pressure.”
