President of the International Olympic Committee pays visit it to Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach tells 11 News it means a lot to see the effort the Springs has put into honoring the games.

He says he sees the Olympic spirit not just in these facilities but in the people.

“This is the Olympic spirit at its best,” Bach said.

Bach says he has been intoxicated by the Olympics since he was a kid. He grew up watching the Olympics before becoming an Olympic athlete, working as a representative for athletes, and eventually becoming president of the committee. He says he sees his love for the Olympics in the Olympic City.

“What impress me most was the people the passion of the people their engagement with and for the Olympic movement and the Olympic Games,” Bach said.

Mayor Yemi Mobolade says he is honored to host Bach and even gave him a coin with the phrase “Olympic City USA” engraved on it. He says this visit is a huge step forward for the city.

“Every once in a while, their questions like is Colorado Springs really the Olympic city USA if there’s any questions about our role in the US Olympic Paralympic movement there’s no question about that today,” Mobolade said.

Mayor Yemi will be flying to D.C. For a visit with the mayors from both L.A. and Salt Lake City and hundreds of United States Olympic and Paralympic athletes as we look forward to the next summer Olympics in 2028.
