The Oregon Ducks got a significant win on the recruiting trail this week, landing a massive commitment flip from 4-star offensive lineman Douglas Utu.
The Bishop Gorman star was previously committed to the Tennessee Volunteers, but he announced on TK that he would be joining the Ducks instead. The 247Sports Composite rates Utu as the No. 69 overall player in the 2025 class, and the No. 2 IOL.
Despite his listing as an interior offensive lineman, Utu is expected to play tackle at the next level. With a 6-foot-4, 320-pound frame, the move to the outside makes sense for this dynamic blue-chip pass-blocker.
The flip is important for Oregon as it tries to garner some momentum as we head deeper into the season and start hurtling toward the early signing period in December. The Ducks have a top-15 class in the nation right now with a handful of 5-star players, but they’re working to flip several other top-ranked prospects.
Utu now joins an offensive line recruiting class that is taking shape. He joins 4-star IOL Ziyarre Addison, 4-star OT Alai Kalaniuvalu — another Bishop Gorman player — and 3-star OT Demetri Manning.
