A restaurant is about to “bloom” at the former Left Bank Restaurant & Bar in York City.
Irish native Victor Claffey, who has two decades of restaurant experience, is opening Bloom later this year at 120 N. George St., according to a press release.
“I think there is a great opportunity in York,” Claffey said.
The Left Bank closed in December 2023, leaving a void in the city’s dining scene. Chef/owner Sean Arnold announced he was relocating out of the area. He took over the restaurant with his wife, Mandy Arnold, in 2017.
The Left Bank was founded in 1998 by chef David Albright and became a culinary landmark. It had received several awards including a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence and Open Table Diner’s Choice awards.
The Arnolds sold the property, including a dozen apartments, to Restaurant 120 LLC, a real estate and investment partnership affiliated with York-based Royal Square Development and Construction, for $825,000, according to a press release.
Claffey is leasing the restaurant, which will focus on New American cuisine and is scheduled to open between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
He has worked at restaurants in the United States and Ireland and most recently operated a gastropub in Minnesota.
Moving to central Pa. with his wife, originally from Lititz, Lancaster County, and their two young children, he was searching for a location to open another restaurant.
“I really felt like we could bring something that is new and fresh to the area,” he said.
