A man serving a state prison sentence in North Carolina was sentenced to six years in federal prison in North Dakota for gun crimes committed during 2020-21.
U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland in Bismarck sentenced Tyquan Graham, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, after he previously pleaded guilty to four counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. A fifth charge related to the distribution of a controlled substance resulting in serious bodily injury was dismissed in exchange for the guilty pleas, according to court documents.
Hovland ordered Graham’s federal sentence to run at the same time as his North Carolina sentence, which, according to court documents, is scheduled to end in August 2027. After his federal sentence is finished, Graham will be placed on three years of supervised release.
Graham, a prohibited possessor of firearms due to previous felony convictions in North Carolina, was involved in four separate incidents in Minot involving guns that were used during assaults and robberies, court documents said. One of those incidents happened on July 26, 2020, when Graham was shot in an exchange of gunfire that he was involved in outside a motorcycle group’s clubhouse.
