Country star appears to clap back at Macklemore’s anti-USA rant: ‘Go live somewhere else (expletive)’

It has been a rough couple of days for Macklemore after he took the stage at a pro-Palestinian benefit concert over the weekend and said, “(expletive) America.”

For obvious reasons, the just didn’t sit right with a lot of folks, and country star Hardy just might have been one of the folks in that crowd. We know this because … well, he didn’t call Macklemore out by name, but he had thoughts about folks who don’t like the United States while opening for Morgan Wallen in Knoxville over the weekend.

“(Expletive) you,” he said while walking around the stage. “If you don’t like living here then (expletive) go live somewhere else (expletive). The United States is the greatest country on the planet.”

The timing could, of course, be entirely a coincidence. Even so, it’s a drastically opposite stance from that taken by Macklemore, and it has drawn a different type of reaction with many supporting Hardy and his pro-USA message.

Macklemore, meanwhile, was dropped on Wednesday by the Neon City Festival less than a week after he was announced as the headlining act.

The artist issued a statement about his words on Instagram Wednesday.

“My thoughts and feelings are not always expressed perfectly or politely,” he wrote. “Sometimes I slip up and get caught in the moment.”

Macklemore said that the pro-Palestinian benefit was one of those times.

“I strive to always lead with love in an effort to bring people together and never to create more division,” he wrote. “The ‘Palestine Will Live Forever’ festival I performed at was rooted in peace, love and solidarity. Unfortunately, the historic event in my hometown that brought thousands of people together to raise awareness and money for the people of Palestine has become overshadowed by two words.

“I wish I had been in a better place with my grief and anger,” he added. “But the truth is I’m not OK. I haven’t been.”

Again, it’s entirely possible the two artists’ different stances so close together were entirely coincidence, but fans were quick to tag Mackelmore to videos of Hardy’s speech on stage.

Hardy has yet to comment further, but it will be interesting to see if he does, indeed, direct his thoughts at Macklemore.
