Biden to continue policy work with gigs lined up after presidency

The president said he will continue to work on foreign policy at the University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement and domestic policy at his alma mater, the University of Delaware.

The statements are the first indication of what Biden will do once he leaves office as a one-term president. In July, Biden, soon-to-be 82 years old, ended his reelection bid due to age-related concerns from prominent Democratic leaders and former President Donald Trump’s increased polling numbers following the June 27 presidential debate.

Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris after stepping down, and she quickly became the Democratic presidential nominee. The president reportedly struggled with the decision to step down, believing he could still beat Trump, however, the president said Wednesday he was “at peace” with his decision.

Since Biden’s departure, Harris has reinvigorated the Democratic Party and made the presidential race with Trump a dead heat. She’s assisted the party both downballot and with fundraising.

“She has the energy, she has the intelligence, she has the grit, she has the stamina, and she has the guts to do the right thing,” Biden said of Harris.

He also said she has to “be herself” to beat Trump.

Biden previously worked at the Penn Biden Center and the University of Delaware after departing the vice presidency in 2016.

The president will leave office in January 2025 as the oldest president ever. If elected, Trump would take the title of the oldest president ever inaugurated.
