Heart of Ohio Athletics recognizes state champions, regional placers

BELLVILLE — Heart of Ohio Athletics got its name because heart is the very principle on which it was created.

Training with heart means more than just practicing and having a strong work ethic. Training with heart means training with Honesty, Effort, Attitude, Respect, and Teamwork.

After not coaching for an actual gym for a couple of years, Heart of Ohio Athletics founder Alyssa Sloey felt a calling to go back to her true calling of gymnastics.

“When we opened 4 years ago, I always dreamed of having a competitive gymnastics team,” Sloey said. “I knew from 22 years in the industry that a strong team takes time to build.

“You need confident, strong, patient, yet motivating coaches, as well as all the same qualities in athletes.”

Heart of Ohio Athletics strives for each athlete to train with self-accountability and honesty, strong effort to reach their goals, a good attitude and respect toward themselves, their coaches, and teammates — and toward the task at hand.

“When each aspect of H.E.A.R.T. comes together, we see confidence soar, dreams and goals become bigger, and an outpouring of success and achievements both in and outside of the gym,” Sloey said.

“Although gymnastics is very much an individualized sport, our athletes train as a team, cheer as a team, empower each other during the exciting, but most importantly, the tough times, and succeed as a team.”

“As Heart of Ohio’s next season approaches, we wanted to acknowledge our athletes who earned awards at state and regional competitions. HOA brought home multiple first place team finishes and other hardware at the individual level.

“From our coaches to our athletes and parents, we are all in the sport together and love to see the gym come together as a family,” Sloey said. “We are so proud of the sense of community our teams have with each other.”

State meet achievements

The state meet consists of all athletes in Ohio competing against their true age divisions under the USA Gymnastics sanction. Out of 40 athletes who competed, Heart of Ohio brought home 94 Top 5 places — 60 of those were Top 3, and 19 were state champions.

The Xcel Bronze team placed 5th out of 26 teams, Xcel Silver team placed 3rd out of 14 teams, and Xcel Gold team placed 3rd out of 20 teams.

“We are thrilled for our coaches and athletes, and even more proud of how our girls held themselves in triumph during the exciting times and in defeat when things didn’t quite go as they wished,” organizers stated.

Let’s say a few prayers for our youth and adult athletes for health, strength, focus, confidence, and wish luck to our teams from Heart of Ohio Athletics as we enter into the 2024-25 season.
