GRAND FORKS, N.D. (UND Athletics)– The University of North Dakota hockey program once again cracked the top-5 nationally to begin the season, sitting fifth in the preseason version of the USHCO.com Poll announced on Monday afternoon.
The Fighting Hawks earned 755 total points in the poll, rounding out a top-5 featuring Denver (988), Boston College (945), Boston University (869) and Michigan State (775).
It marks the fifth straight year that NoDak is among the top-10 to begin the season and continues the streak of the green and white being ranked in every USCHO.com Preseason Poll since it began in 1997-98. Of those 27 polls, UND has been in the top-10 a total of 24 times, including 18 appearances in the top-5.
11 ranked opponents are featured on North Dakota’s schedule, including seven members of the NCHC.
North Dakota opens the season on Saturday, Oct. 5 with an exhibition contest against Augustana at 6:07 p.m. from Ralph Engelstad Arena.
