Rockwood Mansion in Delaware attracts ghost hunters every fall

Rockwood Mansion in Wilmington has a reputation for being one of the most haunted places in Delaware.

Halloween thrill-seekers in Delaware, this spooky season’s events are ready to scare the pants off you, so going commando might not be wise.

Here’s a mix of freaky, witchy and eerie events that will be conjured around the First State, before and after Halloween.  

A Homicide At Rockwood, Wilmington  

It’s no secret Rockwood Park & Museum in Wilmington is one of the most haunted places in Delaware. Now guests are tasked with finding clues to solve a murder mystery of a woman whose body was found the morning after a Halloween party at Rockwood in 1898. This seasonal twist on Rockwood’s self-guided museum tour features a fictitious crime with real suspects. After solving the mystery, guests can tour the Brittle Beauty Gallery to view authentic mourning fashions and accessories made from human hair.

Haunted Histories, Lewes  

Have you heard any eerie stories involving the supernatural and Lewes? Folks will learn about them when Lewes Historical Society and First State Paranormal Investigations welcome folks to hear freaky accounts based on true stories and real people. Guests are recommended to bring flashlights. The final event runs through witching hour on Saturday, Nov. 2, if you dare.  

Lewes Historical Society (110 Shipcarpenter St., Lewes) from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27; Friday, Oct. 18 and from 10 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, Nov. 2. Cost is $35. Visit historiclewes.org or call (302) 645-7670. 

Wicked Woods, Wyoming   

You know it’s a red flag when a haunted attraction refers to its visitors as “victims.” But you’ve been warned. The haunted trail always has an appetite for fresh meat. And there’s no telling what kind of weirdo creatures you’ll find here, too, so play at your own risk.

Curley’s Haunt, Wilmington  

The crew at Curley’s Haunt is different. Their website shows several freaks, including a killer dressed as a teddy bear in pajamas and wielding a knife. The Curley’s Haunt crew loves to keep you on your toes as the fear of the unknown lurks around the corner. Time slots are typically available for guests every 30 minutes, starting at 7 p.m. until 9:30 or 10 p.m.  

The Curley’s Haunt (1220 Evergreen Road, Wilmington) and doors open at 7 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in October as well as on Halloween starting Friday, Oct. 11 through Thursday, Oct. 31 (open at 6:30 p.m. on Halloween). Cemetery House, Laurel  

Graveyards have a reputation for being eerie, and haunted houses are the worst. So, what happens when you merge the two together? You get the Cemetery House in Laurel. Their TikTok page claims they’re the longest-running fright show in Delaware and have been “scaring the yell out of folks since 1992.”  

Laurel VFD (1002 Wolfe St., Laurel) is open 7 to 11 p.m. every Friday and Saturday in October, starting Friday, Oct. 11 until Saturday, Oct. 26. Visit facebook.com/cemeteryhouse.  

Frightland, Middletown 

The king of Delaware’s haunted attractions is still on the throne, waiting to punk more revelers for its 28th chilling season.

Frightland features several evil attractions including a zombie prison, cemetery, haunted barn, zombie, town, haunted house, and more. Frightland has a lot of clout, having gained praise from media outlets like Forbes, Travel Channel and Huffington Post. 

Frightland (309 Port Penn Road, near Middletown) opens each day at 7 p.m. starting Friday, Sept. 27. The last day is Saturday, Nov. 2. General Frightpass is $45 (online) on Thursday, Friday and Sunday; $55 (online) on Saturday. VIP pass is $85 (online). For more info, visit frightland.com. 

Milton Zombie Fest  

New Orleans stands out for its vibrant voodoo legacy, and the Milton Zombie Fest will give a taste of the NOLA with its own Mardi Gras celebration. It’ll include eerie-themed treats, a sinister costume contest and haunting entertainment.

Sea Witch Festival, Rehoboth Beach 

The biggest family-friendly Halloween event in Delaware is the Sea Witch Festival, which attracts thousands to Rehoboth Beach over an October weekend. Festivities for the 34th annual event run all three days with activities like live music, a kids’ corner, artisan vendors and oodles more.   

The main attraction is the costume parade at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. It begins at Coho’s Market & Loves Liquors at the intersection of 4th Street and Rehoboth Avenue and continues down the Avenue. There’s also the costumed dog parade where furry friends strut down the boardwalk, starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27. 

Sea Witch Fest reigns: This Delaware event made a list of the wackiest US festivals. Have you ever been?
