Harris reaches agreement on transition planning with Biden administration, no word on Trump yet — 11:23 a.m.
by the Associated Press
Harris’ transition team has reached an agreement with the General Services Administration to accept pre-election support from the federal government to prepare for her potential presidency.
The agency, which is required by law to offer office space, technology support and other resources to major party nominees, posted the agreement to its website on Monday. The signed memorandum, which governs IT, record-keeping and ethics policies, is dated Sept. 19.
There was no word on whether Trump’s team would reach an agreement before Election Day. But the agency said it was prepared to provide services to the Trump transition team once an agreement is executed and services are accepted.
Trump says, if he loses, 2024 run will be his last — 10:58 a.m.
by the Associated Press
Trump said on Sunday that he doesn’t “think” he’d run again for president in 2028 if he falls short in his bid to return to the White House in 2024.
“No, I don’t. I think that will be, that will be it,” Trump said when journalist Sharyl Attkisson asked him if he’d run again.
The comment was notable both because Trump seemed to rule out a fourth bid for the White House and because he rarely admits the possibility he could legitimately lose an election. Trump normally insists that could only happen if there were widespread cheating, a false allegation he made in 2020 and he’s preemptively made again during his 2024 presidential campaign.

Harris raises $27m in New York fund-raiser, promises economic speech this week — 10:53 a.m.
by the Associated Press
Harris raised $27 million at a packed New York City fundraiser on Sunday, her largest fundraising haul since she took over at the top of the ticket from President Biden, according to a Harris campaign aide.
Though Harris has far more money than Trump, the money will be needed to compete with pricey advertising by deep-pocketed outside groups that support Trump, said the aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private fundraising details.
The blockbuster fundraiser was held at Cipriani Wall Street in a massive Greek Revival ballroom with over a dozen columns. Much of the crowd stood shoulder to shoulder as Harris needled Trump for refusing to debate her again.

Trump is set to travel to Pennsylvania stops focused on countering China — 10:51 a.m.
by the Associated Press
Trump is back on the campaign trail Monday and expected to travel to the swing state of Pennsylvania to speak about his plans to counter the US reliance on China with a group led by a loyalist who served as his top intelligence official.
The former president and Republican presidential nominee is attending the 3 p.m. Eastern event in a rural area outside of Pittsburgh hosted by the Protecting America Initiative, which is led by Richard Grenell, Trump’s former acting director of national intelligence, and former New York congressman Lee Zeldin.
Trump has embraced tariffs as he tries to appeal to working-class voters who oppose free-trade deals and the outsourcing of factories and jobs. The event on Monday focuses on proposals to increase America’s food supply and to protect US farmers.
Man accused in apparent assassination attempt wrote note indicating he intended to kill Trump, Justice Department says — 8:50 a.m.
by the Associated Press
The man accused in the apparent assassination attempt of Trump at a golf course in Florida left behind a note saying that he intended to kill the former president and maintained in his car a handwritten list of dates and venues where Trump was to appear, the Justice Department said.
The new allegations were included in a detention memo filed ahead of a hearing Monday at which the Justice Department was expected argue that 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh should remain locked up as the case moves forward. The details are meant to buttress prosecutors’ assertions that Routh had set out to kill Trump before the plot was thwarted by a Secret Service agent who spotted a rifle poking out of shrubbery on the West Palm Beach golf course where Trump was playing.
The note, addressed “Dear World,” was placed in a box that was dropped at the home of an unidentified person who contacted law enforcement officials after last Sunday’s arrest. It appears to have been based on the premise that the assassination attempt would be ultimately unsuccessful.

Why didn’t the Teamsters endorse Harris or Trump? President Sean O’Brien sheds light on the decision. — 7:00 a.m.
by Jon Chesto, Globe Staff
Sean O’Brien rose to run the Teamsters from the deep-blue state of Massachusetts, a Democrat determined to take on the big businesses that employ his members and finally get Amazon in his union’s sights.
Now, after more than two years as the hard-charging president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, O’Brien finds himself amid a firestorm of criticism over the union’s choice not to endorse a candidate in the presidential race for the first time since 1996. The decision by the union’s executive board last week is seen by many as a boost to Trump and the Republicans and a snub for Harris and the Democratic Party.
O’Brien, in an interview with the Globe, said the vote reflects something different: a failure of the Democratic leadership to remain in touch with its working-class roots. He also noted that Trump beat Harris in two recent polls of union membership.
