Michigan State football dropped its first game of the season this past weekend, and fittingly dropped a few spots in the USA TODAY’s updated 1-134 rankings.

The Spartans lost this past weekend at Boston College in a game they really should have won. The loss dropped Michigan State to 3-1 on the year, and the Spartans are now listed at No. 59 in Paul Myerberg’s updated rankings released on Monday. Michigan State dropped three spots from last week because of the loss.

Of Big Ten teams, Michigan State is No. 13 of the 18 teams in the league. The Spartans are ahead of the following Big Ten teams: Purdue (No. 108), UCLA (No. 105), Northwestern (No. 86), Minnesota (No. 76) and Maryland (No. 63).

Michigan State will look to raise their position in next week’s rankings with a strong performance this week against highly-ranked Ohio State. Kick off from Spartan Stadium between Michigan State and Ohio State is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. The game will be available to stream on Peacock.
