Trump returns to Michigan for a pair of campaign stops on Friday • Michigan Advance

Another week in the presidential race, another week with Trump campaign stops in Michigan.

President Donald Trump’s campaign announced two stops in Michigan on Friday, a day after state residents can start casting absentee ballots.

Trump will appear first in west Michigan with a 2 p.m. stop at metal panel manufacturer FALK Production in Walker, with inflation the planned topic of his remarks.

He’s then scheduled to cross the state for a town hall meeting focused on the auto industry at Macomb Community College in Warren at 6 p.m. Tickets for the town hall are available through Trump’s campaign website.

Trump is battling against Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, to win Michigan’s 15 electoral votes as each vies to win the White House.

“Kamala Harris’ actions have only shown that she will destroy the auto industry,” the campaign said in  a press release. “It’s painfully clear that Michiganders cannot afford four more years of Kamala Harris, and voters in the Great Lakes State are eager to hear how President Trump will lower inflation and protect the auto industry.”

The Harris campaign also issued a statement following the announcement of Trump’s visit.

“As president, Trump killed 30,000 manufacturing jobs and made it easier for companies to ship our jobs overseas,” said Michigan Democratic Coordinated Campaign Rapid Response Director Shafeeqa Kolia. “A second Trump term would be even worse – just last week he said we should let the Chinese Communist Party ‘dominate’ the future of the US auto industry.”

Friday’s dual-stop visit comes two days after Trump’s vice presidential nominee, U.S. Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), will make an appearance in Traverse City on Wednesday.

In between the visits by Vance and Trump, absentee ballots will first be made available to Michigan voters on Thursday, which is 40 days before the Nov. 5 election, the statutory minimum as required by the Michigan Constitution.

Trump held a similar town hall last week in Flint, the same day Vance hosted a campaign event in Sparta, near Grand Rapids.

Harris was in Michigan last Thursday for an event hosted by Oprah Winfrey that was live streamed from Oakland County’s Farmington Hills.
