Social media reacts to Oklahoma Sooners loss to Tennessee Volunteers

For the second time since the 2021 season, the starter to begin the season was pulled in the first half of a game. But unlike that time when Caleb Williams entered the game and helped lead the Sooners to a historic comeback, Oklahoma couldn’t get enough magic on Saturday night.

Michael Hawkins helped lead a pair of fourth quarter touchdown drives, Oklahoma’s only touchdown drives on the evening. He showed off his poise and athleticism to get the Sooners back into striking distance. But the Sooners ran out of time but learned a lot about their true freshman quarterback.

The Sooners also learned a lot about their defense. Though it wasn’t enough to get the win, Oklahoma held the Volunteers to 25 points, 41 fewer than their average through the first three weeks of the season. They also held the Vols stout rushing attack to just 2.9 yards per carry.

It was a disappointing loss on a big-time stage and now the Sooners get ready for the Auburn Tigers in week four. But before we get there, let’s take a look at how social media reacted to the loss.

What could have been

Imagine if OU scores on that first strip sack……

So close

Could have been a lot worse

Could have been a lot better

The amount of injuries we have along with moving onto a true freshman quarterback we have to change expectations.

But i like where we are going with BV and his Elite defense.

Love the Sooners.

Had a chance

If you told me the defense would hold this Tennessee offense to 23 points (not counting the safety) and forced two turnovers, including one inside the 5, I would’ve guessed OU won the football game.

Defense did the dang thing

Shoutout to the damn defense man. Did not see a second of complimentary football and it shows.

Need to find an offense

The supposed best offense in the SEC and we lose by 10 with no offense…….. Yea man yall in trouble. Patience Sooner fan base. Patience. It’s a slow roast but it’s gonna happen.

Sooner Nation brought it

Holly Rowe says loudest decibel rate (117) they’ve had on the field in two years, loudest they had last year was LSU at 115.
Tip of the cap to #Sooners fans

Kendel Dolby reacts to injury

They were pretty good

Well, if you were wondering who has the best defense in the SEC, it’s Oklahoma.

The positions our offense put them in, and to only give up 25 to that offense is wild.

Heupel in the locker room after the win

Respect from the other side

Oklahoma has a great defense. They fought hard and they aren’t a bad team. Respect Sooners. 🤝

And Probably Will

Michael Hawkins should absolutely start at Auburn next week for what it’s worth.

Robert Spears-Jennings was a monster

A positive note on a horrible night:

Robert Spears-Jennings is playing some good football.
