(WHTM) — Data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows overdose deaths in the United States are dropping, including here in Pennsylvania.
The Keystone State has seen about an 18% decrease.

Health experts say it’s a great sign, but they’re urging us to remember the fight is not over yet. Deaths remain above pre-pandemic levels.
“Opioid use disorder, the opioid epidemic is still very much a problem,” Dr. Sarah Kawasaki, Chief of Addiction Medicine at Penn State Health said. “It’s exciting for the first time to see a downward trend, but it’s not enough. And we need to keep going and keep going in the right direction.”
Experts say one of the best ways to achieve that goal is by making sure every American has affordable health insurance and by opening more treatment centers.
