Live updates, score from Vols’ SEC game

NORMAN, Okla. — Josh Heupel leads No. 7 Tennessee football against No. 13 Oklahoma, where he led the Sooners to a national title as a Heisman runner-up quarterback but was fired as offensive coordinator.

Expect a wide range of emotions in Heupel’s homecoming, as Oklahoma (3-0) hosts its first ever SEC game against the Vols (3-0), the highest-scoring team in college football.

It’s also a showdown of former five-star quarterbacks — Tennessee’s Nico Iamaleava and Oklahoma’s Jackson Arnold.

Vols face only one play on defense, as Arnold fumbles on a rush up the middle. Tennessee gets the ball right back.

Iamaleava is sacked and fumbles, giving the Sooners the ball at the Vols’ 6-yard line. Tough break for Tennessee.

With time winding down, Tennessee looked to get one more play off in the first quarter: a 66-yard touchdown connection between Iamaleava and Dont’e Thornton Jr. The pitch-and-catch gives Tennessee an early 10-3 lead vs. the Sooners on the road!

Oklahoma responds with its own drive deep into Tennessee territory, though the Sooners similarly stall at the Vols’ 6-yard line, prompting an OU field goal to tie the game at 3-3. Tennessee takes over at its own 20.

The Vols go deep into Sooner territory with a 38-yard catch-and-run between Nico Iamaleava and Bru McCoy down to the OU 10-yard line. But the Vols end up settling for a go-ahead field goal.

Oklahoma forces a Tennessee three-and-out, but three plays later the Vols regain possession after Jermod McCoy intercepts a pass by Arnold. Not a lot of offense so far in this one.

Vols getting plenty of pressure on OU’s offense, forcing another early punt. Tyre West recorded a sack on second down to put the Sooners at third-and-long.

Vols can’t get anything going on their drive, going three-and-out and opting to punt. Sooners take over on their own 20-yard line after the punt went into the end zone.

Iamaleava had a nice scramble on second down, but Tennessee couldn’t pick up the third-down conversion on a run play with Sampson. Only the Vols third punt all season.

Oklahoma opts to go for it on fourth-and-short at midfield, but the Vols are able to stop the Sooners on the pass play. Tennessee offense takes over with solid field position.

Tennessee wins the coin flip and defers to the second half. Vols defense heading out first. Here we go, folks.

Heupel was honored pregame for his return to Norman, as he won the 2000 national championship as the Sooners’ quarterback. Tennessee-Oklahoma is 20 minutes away from kickoff.

Heupel has made it to the stadium, entering the away locker room for the first time in his football career as a player or coach. The game marks his first time back in Norman since being fired from OU’s coaching staff after the 2014 season.

Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava is warming up on the field in pregame. It’s his first true road game as a starter.

Tennessee has made it to Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Buckle up, folks.
